A planned prescribed burn in the Big Rock Ridge area of Novato, will take place Oct 18–22, weather permitting. Marin County Firefighters will conduct a test burn TODAY (Oct 17) on 10–30 acres to confirm safe conditions. Community members are asked to avoid calling 9-1-1 to report smoke from this planned operation.

The operation will cover just over 200 acres and is part of an ongoing effort to reduce wildfire risk and improve ecosystem health. Smoke will be visible throughout the area, including Novato, Lucas Valley, Marinwood, Terra Linda, Santa Venetia, and along Highway 101. Crews will patrol the site for several days to ensure safety and containment.

These planned burns are essential for reducing wildfire fuels and protecting both our forests and community.
