Heavy Rain and Flooding Expected to Continue Across Marin County

Storm systems are impacting Marin County, with periods of heavy rain expected to continue through the week. A stronger system may bring significant rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding, hazardous travel conditions, and power outages.

Residents are encouraged to stay prepared and remain aware of changing conditions.

Ways to Stay Prepared and Informed

  • Sign up to receive emergency alerts at AlertMarin.org
  • Have sandbags available if you live in a low-lying or flood-prone area
  • Assemble a stay-box with essential supplies
  • Review your household emergency plan
  • Monitor official updates and weather conditions

Sandbag Resources

Sandbag locations throughout Marin County are listed at Emergency.MarinCounty.gov

For Novato residents, sand and bags (self-serve) are available at the City of Novato Corporation Yard, 550 Davidson Street, Novato, CA 94945. Residents who are physically unable to fill sandbags may contact the Public Works Corp Yard at 415-899-8280 during business hours to arrange pickup of prefilled bags, based on availability.

Safety During Heavy Rain

Heavy rain can lead to flooding, reduced visibility, and road closures. Avoid unnecessary travel when possible and use caution when driving.

  • Check vehicle tires, lights, and wipers before traveling
  • Use headlights during rain
  • Never drive through flooded roadways. Just 12 inches of water can float most vehicles
  • Do not walk through moving water. As little as six inches can cause a person to fall
  • Never touch or drive over downed power lines
  • Follow road closures and public safety instructions

Residents are encouraged to bookmark the Marin County Emergency Portal at Emergency.MarinCounty.org for real-time updates during an incident.

Preparedness and awareness can help reduce risk as wet weather continues across Marin County.
