The Novato Fire District invites the community to join us for the Wildfire Preparedness Public Forum on Saturday, May 2, 2026, 10 AM to Noon at the Embassy Suites, 101 McInnis Pkwy, San Rafael, CA
May is National Wildfire Awareness Month, which brings together local fire agencies and community partners from across the County to focus on wildfire risk, preparedness, and action as we work towards a more fire-adapted Marin. This event will give attendees an opportunity to learn about Marin’s new Community Wildfire Protection Plan and to participate in a panel discussion, live Q&A, and connect with local resources.
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is a countywide document that is collaboratively developed by local, state, federal, and tribal partners. CWPPs focus on reducing wildfire risk to people, homes, businesses, watersheds, cultural resources, infrastructure, natural ecosystems, and other values or resources within a defined planning area. This plan will help Marin to better understand wildfire risk and identify where specific coordinated actions can have the greatest impact.
Novato Fire collaborates with residents, schools, homeowner’s associations and more to reduce wildfire risk in the communities we serve. This event will give Novato residents a chance to connect with the larger planning effort. Resources will be available to help you get started, including information on home hardening, defensible space, and available programs.
Attendees can also speak with our Vegetation Management Specialists and Wildfire Mitigation Specialists about ongoing vegetation management projects such as fuel breaks and evacuation route clearance. In partnership with Fire Safe Marin, we’ll also be highlighting neighborhood chipper days, a popular and effective program that helps residents dispose of cut vegetation and reduce hazardous fuels around their homes.
