The Novato Fire Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2026 Steven L. Rucker Memorial Scholarship, which will award one $3,000 scholarship to a Marin County high school senior pursuing a future in the fire service.
The scholarship program was established in 2004 following the tragic loss of firefighter Steven L. Rucker during the 2003 Cedar Fire in Southern California. Steven was a member of Novato Fire Engine Company 6162, which was overrun during the incident. In his memory, the scholarship was created to help students further their education and pursue careers dedicated to protecting and serving others.
Eligible applicants must be graduating seniors from a Marin County high school and demonstrate plans to attend an accredited college, university, or paramedic training program. Fields of study may include Fire Technology, Fire Science, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic training, fire protection, or related disciplines.
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, written application materials, letters of recommendation, and contributions to their school and community.
To apply, students must complete the online application and submit at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, or faculty member.
